It had great strategic importance. Because of its control on the waterway across the Ebro River and the coastal land communication that give access to Tarraco.

Roman camps had square form and were often situated near the rivers to use its water. Some camps were for a single night, they spended all day to build it and the next day were destroyed, and others were used to live in winter and they were made with stones.
